for Their College & Career Future


Career Day

Kindergarten - 12

Business experts visit students to talk about their own careers or explain their business/industry. These presentations are normally held in a classroom setting. Other speakers, such as those giving information on labor statistics, gang violence, human rights, workplace ethics, etc. may also be requested.



Career Fair

Grade 6 - 12

Business experts from a variety of different businesses visit a school and set up "booths" in an open room, such as a gymnasium or cafeteria. Students are then brought down to the fair and are given the opportunity to visit with each business' "booth" to speak with the person representing the business about their carrier and/or their business/industry.



Employment Fair


Industry Tour/Group Shadow

Kindergarten - 12

Students visit the worksite to observe workplace activities and talk with employees or business owners. Industry tours provide opportunities for students to become aware of a variety of career opinions. Three or more students qualify as an Industry Tour or Group Job Shadow experience.

The mission of the Syracuse City School District mentoring program is to foster meaningful, intentional adult relationships with students and to provide students with academic, social and emotional support as well as the guidance needed that will positively impact and enrich their lives.

Kindergarten - 12

A commitment to a long term, mutually beneficial relationship between a school and a business. Offers a broad base of learning activities for students. Formerly known as the "Adopt-a-School" program.



Science Fair


Speakers Bureau

Kindergarten - 12

Business experts visit students to talk about their own careers or explain their business/industry. These presentations are normally held in a classroom setting. Other speakers, such as those giving information on labor statistics, gang violence, human rights, workplace ethics, etc. may also be requested.



Student Internship

Grade 9 - 12 (Paid or Unpaid)

Students work with employers to get in-depth, hands-on knowledge about a particular career or industry. Workplace activities can include special projects, tasks from one particular job or multiple jobs.



Student Job Shadow

Grade 6 - 12

A student spends time with an employee at the worksite to learn about a particular occupation or industry. The purpose of job shadowing is to provide students with an opportunity to explore certain careers. One or two students qualify as a Student Job Shadow experience.



Teacher Job Shadow

Provides opportunities for educators to explore an industry or company to develop their knowledge of workplace skills requirements.
